In 1959 - Your VW could make Coffee

In 1959, Volkswagen offered one of the most unusual optional extras in automotive history: a built-in coffee maker for the Beetle.

Known as the Heinrich Volkswagen Coffee Machine, the device mounted inside the car and ran off the vehicle’s electrical system, allowing drivers to brew coffee on long trips. It reflected the postwar belief that technology could make travel more comfortable, convenient, and even luxurious.

The accessory was rare even at the time and would be unthinkable under today’s safety standards, but surviving examples are now prized collector curiosities, reminders of an era when carmakers weren’t afraid to experiment.
